CSI Southampton – October 24th

Don’t worry crime fans, the festival season isn’t over yet!

CSI Southampton drops in next month and looks like a fantastic one day event for all enthusiasts of the genre. Well priced with some big names this looks like a brilliant way of ensuring your Autumn crime fiction fix.

As part of Southampton’s So To Speak Festival, here’s what they have to say about the event….

Where:- Northguild Lecture Theatre, Central Library, Civic Centre, S014 7LW

When:- Sat 24th October 10:00am – 5.00pm

Price: £18.00 (including £4 reduction in the price of a book) plus booking fee

Join us for CSI Southampton where the cream of crime fiction writers meet real life crime experts. The morning session kicks off with a panel where crime authors Pauline Rowson and Natasha Cooper will be debating with crime scene experts from Hampshire Police, Carolyn Lovell and Jane Aston just how crime fiction differs from crime fact. There will also be the chance for you to ask your questions of the panel and to have your fingerprints taken!
In the afternoon Peter Lovesey will discuss how a decent law abiding man can think up 200 ways of murdering people, followed by Jessie Keane and Sue Wilkins in discussion with Penny Legg on how they create their crime novels. There’ll be book signings and the chance to mingle with both crime authors and crime experts.

Heading for Harrogate

theakstonscrimefictionvestlogo200Yes, it’s that time of year again, I really can’t believe it has come around so quickly, but tomorrow I shall be heading up north for what is now the ninth time to attend the 2015 Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival.

I have some amazing activities lined up, a few dinners and party invites to take up, and I’m looking forward to catching up with the many friends I have there that I only get to see when the festival comes around.

I’m looking forward to going even more than usual this year however.  Wearing my Crimesquad.com hat I will be interviewing Hakan Nesser & Arnaldur Indridason for articles to be posted over there so I’m ridiculously squeeing, and at the same time I’m terribly nervous.  When the interviews go up I’ll add some links, or alternatively if you haven’t already, make sure you add CrimeSquad.com to your favourites.  It’s a fantastic site I love being a part of, and since it’s recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, there is an absolute wealth of reviews to be discovered in its archives.

Now I’m off for some last minute packing and prep.  Do stop me and and say hello if you are up at the festival this year, you’ll more than likely find me in the bar…..

Nordicana 2015 – Coming Soon…

Moving from its previous February slot, Nordicana is set to return to London in June 2015.

Here’s what Nordic Noir has to say about this years event…

From 6th-7th June 2015, fans with a criminal curiosity for provocative Nordic crime dramas will be flocking to the Troxy theatre in London for the 3rd Nordicana festival. The event promises a plethora of top talent – from internationally famed writers to the brightest stars of film and television that the Northern Lights have to offer. For the first time ever, Nordicana will also be recognising other top European shows influenced by the Nordic style.

The festival is designed to allow audiences the chance to explore the intoxicating realm of Nordic Noir and to get up close and personal, with an interactive collection of cultural activities to choose from.  A tantalising range of food, drink, design and culture combines the excitement of a cultural expo with the flair of a film and literary festival.

The evolution of the show continues in 2015 with a brand new team taking the concept into a fresh, revised format. All ticket holders will enjoy their own numbered seat for the day and can relax in-between talks and screenings.  We will have a focused set of events on one main stage across the entire weekend.

Closing Soon – Deal Noir Flash Fiction Competition

Create a crime novel in just 100 words for the chance to win a signed copy of the latest novel from one of the distinguished authors appearing at Deal Noir.

The winner will be announced at the Deal Noir Conference on 28th March 2015.

The Rules

The closing date for entries is 20th March 2015. Only one entry per person.  Submissions must be publishable and written in English. The decision of the judges is final.

Newcastle Noir Programme Announced

BwnFL_ACUAAoblOMay is always a busy month for crime fiction fans, and 2015 is no exception, with not one, not two, but THREE festivals for crime fans to pick and choose between. Kicking of the month in fantastic style is Newcastle Noir, returning for its second year, the festival has expanded from one to two days in length, and has this week announced this cracking programme of events.

Deal Noir

Thanks to Iceland Noir for the heads up on what looks like a fabulous one day crime fiction festival coming to the south-east in March.  Further information can now be found here:- dealnoir.wordpress.com

If you happen to be in the south-east (of England, that is, not the south-east of Iceland) in March, then check out Deal Noir, a small but beautifully crafted one-day crime fiction event taking place on the 28th of March in the coastal town of Deal, overlooking the Goodwin Sands.

It has been organised by those criminal stalwarts Susan Moody and Mike Linane, and the line-up for the day looks undeniably tasty.

ShetlandNoir – Coming in 2015

234x137-Shetland-Noir-BLACK.eeeIceland Noir takes a break in 2015, and moves over to Shetland for the year.

Shetland Arts and Promote Shetland are delighted to announce that Shetland Noir, in association with Iceland Noir, will take place at Mareel from Friday 13 November until Sunday 15 November 2015.

The Crime Fiction Festival will be the first of its kind ever to be held in Shetland and the headliners will be: Denise Mina, Stuart MacBride and Alex Gray from Scotland, and Arne Dahl, Yrsa Sigurðardóttir and Hakan Nesser, representing the Nordic countries. Further writers will be announced in 2015.

The festival will be centred in Mareel, and a festival ticket, on sale now via Shetland Box Office, will ensure access to all of the panel events, and to a choice of fringe activities which will include specialist bus tours and other activities, to be announced in 2015.
